brian McLuckie’s men got some valuable match time on Saturday with a quickly arranged friendly match.
After their scheduled match match against Glenafton Athletic failed to beat the weather, a friendly against the Premier League side was organised giving the Seasiders some much-needed game time.
And it proved an excellent run-out for Girvan as they cruised to a comfortable win with goals from Craig Connell, Steven Shankland, George Wallace, new loan signing Aaron Connolly and youngster Craig Harvey.
The performance sets them up nicely for the visit of Bellshill on Saturday to Hamilton Park, as Girvan look to get themselves back in the title race after dropping two points to Annbank last weekend.
Chairman Tam McCreadie, speaking to the Gazette, said: “It turned out to be a good exercise for us and good to get a game under their belts.
“We did have another game arranged in the event of the Glenafton game being called off but they couldn’t play it. So we’re grateful Cumnock agreed to play instead.”
McLuckie was able to use his full squad of 17 players on Saturday, which will prove beneficial when the congested run-in starts in April and sides will be playing two or three times a week. And having only played eight league games since the season began in August, they face having to squeeze in 18 league fixtures in four months along with Ayrshire Cup fixtures as well.
