On Wednesday night Newton Stewart Golf Club committee drew the winning ticket for their magnificent fundraising raffle prize of a fourball at Turnberry Golf Club on the Championship course, with caddies and a slap-up meal afterwards in the clubhouse.
The lucky winner was 53-year-old musician Graham Hand from Dumfries.
Mr Hand, who plays off 14, was still in a state of disbelief when The Galloway Gazette phoned him on Thursday morning. He said: “I still can’t believe it! I keep thinking it’s a prank as I’ve never won anything in my life!
“I’m originally from Girvan and used to go caddying at Turnberry when I was younger.
“So whoever gets to caddy for me might be somebody I know.
“Funnily enough I played at Turnberry last year for the first time on the Arran course. Both courses are big and it’s a daunting challenge to play round there but I am so looking forward to it.” Graham, who is known as ’Sallywag’ on the entertainment circuit, has yet to decide who he will take with him to Turnberry but he will be the guest of Newton Stewart Golf Club next week when he comes along to collect his prize.
