Fun and games in Belleisle for the young Burners

Last weekend saw yet another exciting batch of various cycling activities for the ever busy Ayr Burners.

Sixteen ‘Burners’ made their way to the Burns Centre on Saturday morning for a relaxed 40 kilometre ride around the quieter back lanes of South and East Ayrshire.

After their two hour jaunt the bunch enjoyed a cafe stop to finish off what was a super start to everyones weekend. The next scheduled ‘Chiller’ ride departs the Burns Centre at 0930 on September 12th. A glorious outbreak of sunny weather came just in time for the latest Balance Bike session at Belleisle Park on Sunday morning, where a full house of under 5’s enjoyed fun, games, and a plentiful supply of cakes.

These sessions are aimed at 2 to 5 year olds, with the aim being to support and encourage the ‘Sparks’ to develop their balance and skills in a fun packed environment.

Whilst the wee ones were having a ball in Belleisle, 5 Ayr Burners took full advantage of the warm conditions and made their way to Arran for a loop of the beautiful Isle. Lamlash, the Ross Road, and Blackwaterfoot were despatched before lunch at the Machrie Tea Room, with Lochranza and the infamous Bouglie climb finishing off a splendid day on the bikes.

This Sunday ‘The Burners’ host the Ayrshire Alps Friendly Ride, where cyclists from Ayrshire and beyond will enjoy an organised ride through the impressive scenery of South Ayrshire. Starting and finishing in Kirkmicheal, two route options of 60 or 100 kilometres are available with many of the famous ascents of the area thrown in for added challenge.

Entry is £3 with any profit being donated to our chosen charity the MS Society. Full details can be found at ayrburners.org
