THE pitch was the winner in this league match which became bogged down in a muddy quagmire as the second half drew to a close.
The home side went a goal up in the 19th minute of the match when a ball was played through the middle, and despite shouts of offside from the visitors, Renfrew went one up.
Girvan equalised in the 36th minute when Alan Love crossed from the right and a looping Tommy Maitland header found its way into the home side’s net.
In the 44th minute Lee McRae had a great chance to score but his shot whistled just inches past the post.
The early part of the second half saw some chances for Girvan to take the lead.
In the 49th minute Alan Love cut in from the right and shot at goal. The Renfrew keeper made a good save and turned the ball round the post for a corner.
In the 65th minute Girvan keeper Darren Johnston had to look smart and made a great double save to keep the score at 1-1.
After that the state of the pitch, which had suffered because of the recent wet weather, started to effect the game with players not even able to kick the ball without getting entrenched in the mud.
Girvan now have a home game on Saturday against Glencairn, again in the league, and can also look forward to welcoming Donald Findlay QC and former Rangers star, John Brown to a fundraising speaker’s night for the club at the Catholic Hall in Girvan after the match.
