Girvan FC boss Peter Leonard says preparations are going well for the new season as his side gear up for a four team tournament at Hamilton Park on Saturday.
The T.McCreadie Snr tournament kicks off at 12 noon and will feature 45 minute games as Girvan FC battle it out with Threave Rovers, Ayr Utd U20’s and Bonnyton U21’s.
Leonard said: “The boys have been back in training since 1st July and we’ve had five training seassions and they are looking good.
“These games will be a good test, especially physically as you will be up against young lads from Ayr and Bonnyton.
“Threave Rovers have played three pre-season friendlies already so this will do us well in terms of fitness.”
Leonard has raided his old club Maybole for seven players as he boosts his squad ahead of next month’s start. Stephen Cargill, Marc Dyer, Craig Reid, Chris Allan, Davie Cunningham, Scott Dinwoodie and Dean Marshall have all signed on.
The Girvan boss said: “We’ve also added Michael Mossie who was here last year from Ayr United, Connor Boyd from Auchinleck Boswell and Robbie Wilson from Girvan U19s.
“Stevie McKissock unfortunately broke his leg playing 5 a side but hopefully he’ll be back with us sooner rather than later.
“With the league cup we’ve got four quick games so we need a good sized squad.”
Girvan were drawn against Scottish Amateur Cup champions Harestanes on Friday in the preliminary round draw of the Scottish Cup and Leonard’s expecting a tough tie.
“They are a strong side and for a while the top amateur sides have been playing at a similar level to the juniors.
“But they’ll see a different Girvan to last year and whilst they’ll think they’re in with a good chance, we’re in with a good chance too.”
