Girvan Primary narrowly lose to Doonfoot

On 26th March in typically Scottish football conditions, Girvan Primary played a league match against Doonfoot away at Doonfoot Primary School. In a fiercely contested and exhilarating game with little between the teams the score was alas 3-2 to Doonfoot.

Girvan were on the back foot from the start when the hosts scored within seconds of the game starting with the defence caught napping. Although it looked like Girvan were in for a skelping the visitor’s confidence grew as the first half progressed and more attentive defending and focussed goalkeeping from woman of the match Aimee Slavin confined the oppositin to ineffective long range shots.

Half way through the half Girvan equalised with a stunning headed goal from Kenny Sloan.

Doonfoot restored their lead soon after but a side footed shot from Mason Brook following a well-worked move in midfield meant the half ended in a deserved draw.

The second half displayed more end to end action but without any end product until a fabulous goal from a tight angle from ex Girvan pupil Curtis McGurn saw the hosts take the lead again.

Although Girvan made two substitutions with Daryl Conway and Tyler Mitchell making their debuts for the club, the second half ended with Doonfoot the winners. The score would have been heavier against Girvan were it not for the goalkeeping heroics of Aimee Slavin who pulled off some amazing saves, including plucking the ball out of mid-air just as an opposition player was about to shoot.

Many thanks go to Mrs Ferguson for her support, Mrs Clark for her full time refreshments and to the parents who turned up to support Girvan.
