Girvan to take on Annbank on Saturday

Girvan manager Alan Cotton says Saturday’s closed door game with a St Mirren XI was a very worthwhile exercise.

The Hamilton Park men travelled up to Paisley as they had a free weekend due to them receiving a bye in the Scottish Junior Cup 2nd round.

Cotton said: “It was a very worthwhile exercise. I wanted to show the boys what is possible in terms of fitness and coming up against a very good team showed them that.

“With Malcolm and Jim alongside me, we’re working the boys hard now and they are responding to what we’re doing.”

Girvan go into Saturday’s league match with Annbank at Hamilton Park (kick off 2pm) sitting 10th in the Ayrshire District, one place below their visitors.

Cotton said: “I think it will be an even game and I think Annbank like ourselves are in a bit of a false positionas they have a number of good players.”

Girvan beat Annbank 5-0 earlier in the season in the League Cup but Cotton doesn’t see that happening again.

“That was actually very evenly contested until the later part of the game and that scoreline doesn’t fool me ahead of Saturday.”
