Girvan Youth are on the ball

Girvan Youth Football Club has been recognised by the SFA for its valuable contribution to grassroots football.

Michelle Edens, club chairperson, was presented with the Scottish FA Quality Mark (Standard) award by Scottish Football Association chief executive Stewart Regan and director of football development Jim Fleeting.

The award recognises pro-active clubs and schools working to increase youth and community participation.

Clubs and schools receive the award after meeting standards in areas such as coach and player development, management, administration, welfare and planning.

Eddie McCulloch, under 13 coach, beamed: "'This is a great achievement for the club and it takes us on a new direction, this award means that the players & coaches will now receive the training that will allow the club and players to develop into the best they can be."

Scottish FA club development manager John Brown said: "The hours of hard work and dedication is often overlooked and we want to let everyone involved know that the whole of Scottish football appreciates their tireless efforts."
