Girvan Youths march on in Scottish Cup

Girvan Youth U19s marched into the next round of the Scottish Cup with a resounding 5-1 win against Riverside Reds on Sunday.

In glorious conditions Girvan Youth U19s hosted Riverside Reds from Stirlingshire in the 3rd round of the Scottish Cup.

Girvan FC kindly let the youth team use Hamilton Park for this massive game.

With the pitch in fantastic condition and the beautiful day there was a big turn out to watch the youngsters which was good to see.

Girvan Youth started the game very brightly in their camouflage strip and wearing their poppies with pride and forced some early saves from the Riverside keeper, and It wasn’t long before they opened the scoring. Rice deliveed in a lovely ball for Henderson to drive home after five minutes.

Girvan had all the play with their tails up and Millarvie added another 20 minutes later after McAvoy slipped the ball through and Millarvie darted in and rifled the ball home.

Dorans replace Rice and made an immediate impact with a bit of individual brilliance skipping past 3 defenders and slotting home to make it 3-0 to Girvan at half time.

The second half started and Riverside were a different side and started causing Girvan problems. It took a brilliant save from Ross in goal to deny them but Riverside’s pressure soon paid off and they did score to give themselves a lifeline. Girvan’s defence were under a bit of pressure now but they coped well and before the end Girvan put the game to bed with two further goals. A brilliant headed goal from Smith made it 4-1 before another super strike from Henderson booked Girvan a place in the 4th Round.
