Girvan based runner Kerry-Liam Wilson secured himself a double medal haul and and a new personal best for the 10k
distance at Irvine 10k road race which was held in and around the beach park area of the town.
last week won the Vets 10k at Pollock Park in Glasgow was again using this race,just like last week’s as “see where
I am at races” and with both outcomes is looking very decent.
Last week’s Vets race was also going to be used as a
guide for the Scottish Veteran selectors for November’s Vet International over in Belfast so for Kerry-Liam to win
and then improve again on his time just one week later all bodes well for him.
Kerry-Liam battled hard with Shettleson’s Thomas Fay through out the race. Thomas had taken an early lead just after
the first k but Kerry-Liam was just a couple of seconds behind.
By 3km the duo were neck and neck and at 5k Kerry-Liam took the lead and it was his turn to be a couple of seconds ahead.
At 7k Thomas then drew level and pushed on and made a gap of five seconds but Kerry-Liam still hung in there.
Thomas however was stretching away and broke the tape with a new personal best for himself and take the West District 10k Championship title with an impressive 31:26.
Kerry-Liam just 9 seconds back in second place with also a new personal best of 31:35 taking twelve seconds off his previous best over the distance.
Thus giving Kerry-Liam silver in the Senior championship but Masters Gold medal as he was the first runner over the age of thirty five.
Also racing on Sunday was Girvan AAC stalwart Jack Maxwell. Jack getting himself back into a bit of fitness helped
Debbie McClymont to a 54:43 time and just ahead of them was Elaine rennie who ran a good 47:48 time. Both ladies
enjoying a bit of a resurrgance to their running again and the more they race the more their times will continue to
