Junior football makes a welcome return this Saturday as teams get their seasons underway with matches in the Ardagh Glass League cup.
The League Cup is the traditional curtain raiser for the junior game and the opening games see both Carrick junior sides at home.
Girvan will play Whitletts Victoria at Hamilton Park with a 2pm kick off while Maybole will tackle Annbank at Ladywell Stadium, which also starts at 2pm.
Both games are in group three of the League Cup and the Carrick rivals are set to come up against each other at Maybole on Saturday 16th August at 2pm.
Girvan’s pre season preparations have been hampered by a lack of players with almost all of last season’s squad departing or being released.
This has left newly returned manager Billy Thomson with a huge rebuilding job but he has seen makeshift teams enjoy 3-2 and 3-0 wins over amateur sides Crosshill and Carrick respectively in pre-season ahead of the traditional curtain raiser for the junior season.
Meanwhile, Maybole will be looking to build on an impressive 2013-14 where they finished 4th in the first division.
And they have enjoyed a successful pre season winning the Maybole Tournament in July with a 7-0 win over Dailly Amateurs followed by a 2-0 win over Carrick Amateurs.
They followed that up with an 8-3 win over Threave Rovers and a 4-2 win over a young Ayr United side. And on Sunday they just missed out on the Jim Baird memorial trophy in Lugar, losing to Troon on penalties after a 2-2 draw.
The club are also currently actively seeking sponsorship deals for home or away squad numbers. Costing £80 the sponsor will receive the jersey and a photo with a player of their choice at the end of the season. To find out more and enquire about sponsorship visit www.maybolejuniorsfc.co.uk.
