New Girvan FC manager Billy Thomson faces a huge rebuilding job after a full clearout of last season’s squad.
But he is up for a challenge despite knowing it will take time.
“I still haven’t signed any players after a full clear out of the club but I am looking at up to half a dozen signings this week.
“Danny Cunningham has stayed on but it is very hard to get players who have tied up commitments with other clubs.
“It’s a really hard scenario right now and I’m working with a blank canvas while still trying to make this club competitive.
“I’m not going to go out and sign willy nilly amateurs as I want to get the right boys in and it will take time.”
Girvan beat Crosshill Amateurs on Saturday 3-2 at Hamilton Park in a friendly.
Thomson said: “It was a really good exercise and I did see two or three good boys out there and it was good to teach them how to keep the ball down on a big park.
“We’ve cancelled our friendly with Arthurlie on Saturday as I don’t want young boys getting thrashed off big junior sides but we’re set to play Cumnock on 30th July at Hamilton Park.”
Meanwhile, chairman Tam McCreadie would like to thank his father T. McCreadie senior for a very generous sponsorship deal for the new season.
