Carrick Young Farmers strike out

YOUNG farmers from Carrick came out top as they struck out the competition in the first ever west region ten pin bowling challenge.

Ayr YFC members Steven Kennedy, of Bogside Farm, Coylton; Alison and Ross Baird, of Dalhowan Farm, Crosshill; Alan Parker, of Merkland Farm, Kirkmichael; John Gilmour, of Humeston Farm, Maybole; and Robert McMillan, of Burnbank Farm, Dalrymple, were named the winners of the inaugural west regional 10-pin bowling competition held at LA Bowls in Ayr this month. The Ayrshire crew secured a lead of 41 points over the runners-up, with a final score of 1086 points.

But it was a decent result for the west of Scotland as a whole, as second place was clinched by neighbouring Stranraer and Rhins YFC,

The west’s YFC clubs are now busy preparing for the regional senior speechmaking competition this Saturday February 2 at Linwood’s Tweedie Hall. The competition will begin at 12pm and spectator support is welcome.
