Curling’s annual congress held in south Ayrshire

It was another first for South Ayrshire when the World Curling Federation held their annual congress – their first ever in Scotland - in Ayr.
To mark the special occasion South Ayrshire Provost Helen Moonie hosted a civic reception at the County Buildings in Ayr,.
The event was run in conjunction with the Royal Caledonian Curling Club.
Provost Helen Moonie said: “Around the world curling is becoming more and more popular with people of all ages taking to the ice.
“The World Curling Federation represents curling internationally, and supports the growth of this popular sport through a network of global contacts.
“I am delighted that, in this very special sporting year, the Federation chose to hold their first ever annual conference in Scotland, in South Ayrshire. Curling is a game of skill and tradition, as well as being lots of fun, and a great way to exercise. It teaches discipline, team skills and respect for your opponents.
“We have a very strong bond with curling, which is unique to South Ayrshire, the Ailsa Craig. Famous for providing granite that is skilfully carved into curling stones which are known the world over.”
