Eight goals for glorious Girvan

girvan scored a magnificent eight goals in this their first home league match of the season.

The Seasiders took the lead within 30 seconds of the kick off in this league match against Craigmark Burntonians when a long ball from Murchie found Darren Mitchell who then found Craig Harvey who scored with a good finish.

However Craigmark hit back in the third minute when centre forward Balfour, who showed good pace, got to the by-line and cut the ball across for an easy finish from 10 yards out.

Craigmark took the lead in 10 minutes when Girvan lost the ball in the middle of the park and Craigmark went up the park to score.

In the 12th minute Craigmark were down to ten men after a player was sent off for going into a tackle with his studs showing.

From then it was just a matter of time before Girvan equalised and in the 32nd minute Scott McQuade fired in from an acute angle.

In the second half Girvan scored another quick goal with Darren Mitchell scoring with a header in the 47th minute.

In the 50th minute it was 4-2 when MacVittie scored from six yards out.

Two minutes later it was 5-2 when Tommy Maitland scored from close in.

And Girvan scored a third in ten minutes when Craig Harvey went on a good run down the left and cut inside past a defender before slipping the ball past the keeper.

In the 63rd minute it was 7-2 when Scott McQuade scored and it was 8-2 in the 87th minute when Lewis Gardner side footed the ball past the keeper from 10 yards.

Club chairman Tam McCreadie said: “It was a good win on Saturday and a good display. They were down to ten men early on but you have to take advantage and score goals which we did.

“It looked as if it was going to be a good game, both teams were playing well, but the sending off was the turning point.

“In the second half we dominated the game. The only ball out they had was to their pacy centre forward but he came off in the second half with a slight injury and after that they had nothing to trouble us.

“It’s a good three points from our first league game at home - that’s where we have to pick up points in this league.”

On Saturday Girvan have a tough match away to surprise league leaders Irvine Vics who have won four out of four in the league.
