Girvan FC fell to a 4-2 defeat against league leaders Ardeer Thistle on Saturday in North Ayrshire.
The Hamilton Park men have placed Danny Cunningham and Darren Mitchell in charge and they duo had enjoyed a 4-2 win over Dalry in the Ayrshire Weekly Press Cup last week.
However, they were on the receiving end of that scoreline this weekend as their opponents cemented their position at the top of the Ayrshire District League.
The hosts got off to a perfect start as a free kick from Darren Miller was met by Kevin Ramsay, who headed the ball down to Ross Stewart who calmly slotted by David Markey in the Girvan goal.
Girvan forced Ardeer keeper Paul McCann into action shortly afterwards as trialist Gordon Roberts but the Seasiders fell 2-0 down on 26 minutes as Lee Munro’s corner was met by Ramsay again with Stephen Reid adding the finishing touch at the back post.
And there was a mountain to climb for Girvan after Munro made it three on the half hour mark.
This did seem to galvanise Girvan though as they launched a series of attacks at the Ardeer goal. First Jordan Ryan shot just wide of goal and then Mitchell was denied by McCann. Their efforts paid off as Girvan grabbed a goal before the half time whistle with trialist Roberts getting on the scoresheet from close range.
Early in the second half Alan Orr tested McCann with a free kick that he had to tip over but Ardeer restored their three goal advantage on 58 minutes with Munro grabbing his second after Stewart flicked a long ball into his path.
Girvan got one back through a deflected David McVittie effort which looped into the net but couldn’t find any further route past McCann and Ardeer held on for the three points.
Next up for Girvan is a cup tie away to Muirkirk who they play in the second round of the Ayrshire Weekly Press Cup on Saturday. Kick off at Muirkirk is at 2pm.
The defeat leaves Girvan ninth in the district league with ten matches remaining.
