Girvan men clinch angling award
KEEN Girvan fishermen last week had their dedication and commitment recognised as they were named Fishermen of the Year at Girvan Mains Angling Club.
Craig Sommervillle, 38, and David McVittie, 48, were jointly presented with the Fisherman of the Year trophy – or Peter Rafferty Challenge Cup – by Girvan Mains Angling Club president and trophy namesake Peter Rafferty.
Dave said it was an honour both to win and to be a club member.
“We will do all we can to preserve our club water and surroundings for many years to come,” he said.
“We are very lucky to have such a beautiful stretch of river on our doorstep, and a close knit club such as Girvan Mains Fishing Club,” added Craig.
The club are looking for local companies or individuals to sponsor trophies. Club members have been busy maintaining the banks of the River Girvan, some of which haven’t been cleared in over 20 years, but club funds are running short.
Members have also been dragging fallen trees out of the water.
If anyone is interested in sponsoring a trophy at the Girvan Mains club contact club president Peter Rafferty on 07596 615789.
