Hooked on festival

The Loch Ryan Sea Angling Association two-day festival was held on September 22 and 23.

There was a window in the wet and windy weather of late which helped to make the weekend’s fishing more pleasurable.

Anglers from Cumbria, north-east England, Kirkcudbright and Kilmarnock joined locals to compete over the two days.

In the Saturday evening match, the fish were plentiful but quite hard to catch and land. However, in the Sunday match the fish were pretty scarce.

Results for Saturday were – Zone A: 1. David Little (Kirkcudbright), 2. G Owen (Cumbria); Zone B: 1. Shaun Golightly (north-east), 2. Scott McNichol (Kirkcudbright); Juniors: 1. A Little (Kirkcudbright).

Sunday – Zone A: 1. Colin Bell (north-east), 2. Chris Stringer (north-east); Zone B: 1. Alec Bell (Kilmarnock), 2. Colin Rothwell (Stranraer); Junior: 1. A Little (Kirkcudbright), 2. M Baigre (Stranraer).

Zone prizes were sponsored by Martin Lock and The Sports Shop. The best angler over the festival was Shaun Golightly, who closely pipped Alec Bell to win the ferry tickets sponsored by Stenaline along with a good cash prize. Chris Stringer was third. Colin Rothwell scooped the best Lochryan angler over the two days.

The club would like to thank everyone for their generous sponsorship and support for the competition.
