Monday the 23rd saw another really close competition in Dad’s Army. Countback decided the top four players who all tied on 17 points. Jim Millar was first, Jim McCreadie second, John McCormick third and Jim Herd fourth.

Wednesday the 25th was a yellow tee stableford for the men. Ronnie Mills came first on 36 points, Hugh Ward second on 34 and George Scobie third on 30 points.

The other competition that day was the 9 hole tri-am competition held with ladies and Dad’s Army. There were some fantastic scores. The winning team with a score of 30 was Marion Whiteford, Jim Rodger and Jack Bainbridge.

Saturday the 28th was the men’s three man better ball competition. There was some worry when one team signed for an incorrect score on the 12th hole and their now higher score tying two teams on 66. This lead to a countback to decide the winning team of Kevin McSorley, Ronnie Mills and Hugh Ward.

Brunston Castle was delighted to welcome back past captains on the annual past captains’ day. With good weather, the course in fantastic condition and a superb menu put on by the Dine restaurant, a great day was had by everyone. Current captain Allan McWilliam played “my best game of the year” to win on 41 points.

Normally golfers are looking for golf balls on the course but our head green keeper and lady captain found something a bit different – a baby deer. There was no mother to be seen, so they brought the fawn to the clubhouse and after a short stay in the pro’s shop, I took it to the Corner Vets in Girvan to be collected later that day by the RSPCA.
