Local runners compete in Scottish cross country
Last Saturday local runners Fraser Stirling, Kerry-Liam Wilson and Jo Schreiber travelled to Callendar Park, Falkirk for the biggest cross country race on the circuit, the Scottish Athletics National Cross Country Championships.
The championships attract runners from all corners of the country with age groups from U13s right through to Senior level.
Perfect weather conditions awaited the runners and the spectators at the scenic Callendar Park where the race starts and finish right in front of Callendar House.
First off out the trio was Fraser in the Under 15s and he looked in control throughout the race with this time here at the event in his new age group.
He competed at the West District Cross Country and at BUPA Great Edinburgh races in this age group and like here today the step up didn’t deter him one bit with Fraser coming home in 17th place for the 4k distance, one full lap of the course.
Jo Schreiber was competing in the Senior Ladies race which was two full laps and finished in 147th place with a time of 38:46. Jo was the only lady from the Girvan club present.
In the Senior Mens race it was the turn of Kerry-Liam Wilson, the Scottish Masters Cross Country M40 champion to tackle the 12k distance which was three full laps.
With ten races in total throughout the day the course wasn’t that badly cut up for the men this time.
But still it was equally energy sapping all the same saw Kerry-Liam finish in 32nd place after being out sprinted in the home strait but still gave the Master Internationalist a highest ever placing at the event and helping his team, Team Cambuslang to team silver medal with Kerry-Liam himself sixth counter for the team.
