Billy Thomson has returned to Girvan FC to take up the manager’s position as the club gear up for the new season.
Thomson will be joined in the dugout by assistant Danny Cunningham who will continue to play for the Seasiders.
Thomson helped Girvan to promotion from the Ayrshire League in 2008 as well as a West of Scotland Cup semi final against Pollok.
He also helped out towards the end of the 2013 season when the management duo of David Brown and Stewart Maxwell resigned.
Now this week he has agreed a return to Hamilton Park.
Thomson will be hoping to improve Girvan’s position of seventh last season in the Ayrshire District League after an indifferent season which saw three different management teams in place.
By the end of the season player management duo Darren Mitchell and Danny Cunningham were in charge, but Cunningham has agreed to take a step down to assistant manager.
The club were also informed this week that they will enter the Scottish Cup for 2014-15 at the preliminary round stage along with four other junior teams at that stage including Scottish Junior cup winners Hurlford United and Auchinleck Talbot.
The preliminary round tie will take place on Saturday 16 August and if Girvan are successful in that tie they will go through to the first round proper of the Scottish Cup.
Before that Girvan will begin their season in the Ardagh Glass League Cup on Saturday 9 August with a home match against Whitletts Victoria with kick off at 2pm.
Following that they will take on Troon at Hamilton Park on Wednesday 13 August at 6.45pm with a provisional fixture scheduled away to Maybole on August 18 at 6.45.
The final two games in the group stage will see Girvan make the trip to Annbank on August 20 at 6.45 before travelling to Craigmark on August 23 for a 2pm kick off.
Their Ayrshire District League campaign kicks off a week later on Saturday 30 August at Hamilton Park with a game against Kello Rovers at 2pm.
The club at its AGM decided that they are looking for a commercial manager.
If anybody could help the club in this position please contact the secretary Martin Young by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
The clubs latest winner of the 50/50 draw was M Woolgar who won £61. And the club are also looking for more teams to participate in their Youth Tournament which will be held at Hamilton Park on Saturday July 12th.
