Maybole Juniors continued their fine start to the season as they beat Kilsyth Rangers in a nine goal thriller at Ladywell Stadium on Saturday.
Peter Leonard’s men came into the game off the back of a 5-0 win at Largs the previous week and they were on the goal trail again.
However, this time they allowed their opponents, Kilsyth to come back into the game in the final half hour, but Maybole held on for a 5-4 win.
The three points see Maybole remain unbeaten in the Super League first division and they proudly sit in third place in the division.
Maybole started the game in great fashion as Stuart McGrady opened the scoring in six minutes in what would prove to be his first goal in a second successive hat-trick.
Two kick goals either side of the half hour mark from McGrady had Maybole on easy street against a Kilsyth side that had lost all of their league games so far this season and they went in 3-0 up at the break. There was no let up at the start of the second half with two goals inside the first six minutes of the second 45 from Davie Cunningham and Marc Dyer looked to have sealed all three points for Maybole. However, the visitors came back strongly in the last hour and almost grabbed a remarkable point as the Maybole defence leaked four goals.
The three points stayed in Maybole though and Leonard’s side can now look forward to another home match this Saturday against second placed Pollok, with kick off at 2pm. Meanwhile Girvan had a week off from playing but will be hoping to kick start their season when they travel to Whitletts on Saturday to play their third league game of the season with kick off at 2pm.
Girvan sit second bottom of the Ayrshire District League having lost their first two league games and face a tough task against unbeaten Whitletts.
