Maybole Juniors Scottish Junior Cup dreams ended on Saturday as they went down 4-2 to Penicuik Athletic.
Peter Leonard’s side put up a great fight against the reigning East Premier League champions and they took the lead inside four minutes.
Maybole broke from a Penicuik corner and whilst the home sides keeper did well to stop the first shot, he had no chance stopping the rebound from Chris Allan which give the visitors an early lead.
Robert Patterson had an effort in the 12th minute but his volley went wide of the target before Penicuik came into the game with Martin Barclay pulling off a great save on 15 minutes to deny Grant Killin before captain Dougie Cunnison came close to equalising for the home side from the resulting corner.
Allan almost made it 2-0 on 24 minutes but he was denied by Youssef Bejaoui in the Penicuik goal before on the stroke of half time Penicuik equalised when James McPartlin cooly slotted home after two earlier efforts were blocked.
Maybole started the second half well with Kenny Parris forcing Bejauoi into a save before a header came back off the crossbar which had Bejaoui at full stretch.
On the hour mark, Penicuik took the lead when Killin slotted home after a cross from substitute Danny Rennie. Penicuik should have went further ahead on 68 minutes but Scott McCulloch missed an open goal.
However, Jordan Lister did make it 3-1 for the home side on 77 minutes after being set up by a Ryan McCallum cross.
Maybole weren’t finished though and Patterson punished the Penicuik defence on 82 minutes to make it 3-2 before the home side sealed the win on 86 minutes when McCulloch headed home.
Maybole are back on league duty on Saturday when they head to Yoker with kick off at 2pm.
