Maybole’s Jim narrowly beaten in major darts tournament

Maybole’s Jim McEwan put up a great fight as he played in one of darts’ biggest tournaments.

He was down in Minehead to play in the UK Open which was eventually won on Sunday by world number one Michael Van Gerwen who beat Scotland’s Peter Wright 11-5 in the final.

Jim, who had beaten his close friend from Girvan Steve McCluskey to qualify for the tournament tackled experienced Irish player Connie Finnan in Friday’s preliminary round.

And in a match that could have gone either way, it was Connie who edged home 5-4 in legs after James had missed a dart to win the match 5-3.
