Carrick’s local derby saw Maybole Juniors run out 3-0 winners at the weekend in the Ardagh Glass League Cup.

The result means Maybole lead the six team section 3 of the competition with two games to play, while Girvan are left stranded at the bottom still to take a point.

Last Wednesday night Girvan were on the wrong end of a 6-1 scoreline at Troon while Maybole thumped Craigmark 8-0.

Tonight (Wednesday, August 20) Girvan travel to Annbank while Maybole visit Troon in the penultimate matches in the section, and on Saturday Maybole are away to Troon while Girvan visit Craigmark in the final games.

Maybole had only 12 players available for this game due to work commitments and holidays.

Scott Dinwoodie and Stuart McGrady were back in the side with Mark Doolan starting on the bench.

Maybole had Girvan pressed back deep in their own half for much of the first 45 minutes.

It was no surprise when Maybole’s first came in the 14th minute.

Stuart Grady’s cross into the box eluded the Girvan defence and ended up in the corner of the net.

Girvan lived dangerously as chances fell to Maybole and two good saves in succession from the Girvan keeper kept the scoreline at 1-0 for the home side.

In the 55th minute Davie Cunningham made it 2-0 for Maybole when he scored from 20 yards out.

The game then went very quiet as Girvan could not get out of their own half and Maybole could not put any sort of passing move together.

Andy Stevenson added Maybole’s third goal with a tap in from six yards out.

Maybole will hope to play better in the final two games of the section starting tonight at Troon, while Girvan are going through a restructuring process and will hope for good progress this season.
