The rugby season’s league programme began with mixed fortunes for the local sides on Saturday.

In RBS West Division Two, Carrick got off to a splendid start by thumping their visitors from Stewartry 56-13.

On Saturday the men from Maybole travel north to Oban Lorne hoping to continue their fine form.

Wigtownshire’s game in the West Regional Bowl on Saturday was called off as their opponents, Renfrew, could not field a team. The ’Shire therefore progress to the next round and will play Bishopton RFC on October 5 at London Road.

Newton Stewart posted an excellent victory away to Allan Glen’s, running out 27-12 winners in RBS West Division One.

On Saturday, Wigtownshire are once more at home for what will be their first league game of the season against Paisley.

Newton Stewart are at Bladnoch Park, where the visitors are the men from Glasgow Accies for what should be a cracking encounter.

All kick-offs are at 3pm.
