Burners take the high road

The stunning Mennock Pass
The stunning Mennock Pass

A high off road adventure beckoned last weekend for Ayr Burners Cycling QTS as the group made good use of the weekends favourable conditions to scale one of the highest roads in Scotland.

Starting from Sanquhar, the impressive Mennock Pass would be the first ascent of the day with the real test awaiting on the slopes Green Lowther Hill. The summit at 1500 ft awarded the riders with stunning views across Southern Scotland and beyond before the fast descent back to Wanlockhead. The return route to Sanquhar was taken via the trails of the Southern Upland Way, with a grand total of 3500 feet of ascent in only 25 miles clocked up for the Burners.

This Sunday The Burners embark on another challenge - An Everesting attempt on the famous Nic o’ the Balloch. The riders will have an eye watering 8848 metres to cover in only 4 hours which will gain them the equivalent height of Mount Everest.
