Girvan are ready for the start of the new football season tonight (Wednesday), says chairman Tam McCreadie. After a tough pre- season and a few changes in the squad, the club believe they are equipped for another crack at the First Division title.
Five new faces – Iain Fulton, from Kilwinning Rangers, Michael Rutherford (Lugar Boswell Thistle), Sean McKenna (Bellshill Athletic), Kyle Faulds (St Mirren) and Darren Johnstone, from Troon – arrived at Hamilton Park during the summer break.
And McCreadie said: “The team is getting there and taking shape. We’ve still to see Sean McKenna and Danny Cunningham is still out injured, so they’ve to come back as well. We are looking strong with plenty of cover throughout the squad.
“We’ve had a tough pre-season against good sides and I thought we played well throughout the games. The League Cup gives us a few more games for the new boys to settle in.”
Girvan face Troon at Portland Park tonight and McCreadie is expecting a good game against a side who are currently favourites for the Ayrshire District League.
He added: “They seem to have been busy with a few new faces themselves. But I think we are looking in good shape, too, so it should be a good game.”
McCreadie said he didn’t think the club would continue their pursuit of ex-Arthurlie striker John Bradford, who featured as a trailist during pre-season.
