Ayr Roads CC/Harry Fairbairn BMW was represented by Gary Maher at the Sam Robinson Memorial Road Race a week past Sunday (8th September).
The 39th edition of the race was again undertaken on a demanding 80 mile course at Balfron, 16 miles north of Glasgow. The National B event attracted many of the top riders in the country with Steven Lawley of Herbalife-Leisure Lakes Bikes claiming the title by crossing the line first in a time of 03:05:29.
Team mate Gary Hand took the runner spot with Andrew Whitehall of Equipe Velo Ecosse/Montpeliers completing the podium – both in the same time. Gary once again rode well to claim an excellent top 15 finish, 90 seconds down on the leaders after a hard day in the saddle.
Veteran ARCC member John Mason enjoyed a successful ride at the European Masters Track Championship 2013, held in Newport, Wales the other week by claiming a bronze medal in both the time trial and pursuit. John clocked 42.130 in the aged over 65 time trial and 2:58.852 for 8 laps of the track in the pursuit. Well done John.
