Youth Trust roll out a summer of sport

Girvan Youth Trust is set to provide a series of free sporting activities for youngsters over the summer holidays.

Working in partnership with Girvan Academy, South Ayrshire Community Sports Hub, Active Schools and Community Safety, the Youth Trust is organising a programme of free summer sports and activities during the summer holidays for children and young people who will be new Primary 6 pupils and up to the age of 18.

The programme will offer a variety of taster sessions for young people to try out, and these will run every Wednesday during the holidays. The sessions will begin on Wednesday 2nd July and will run to Wednesday 13th August in Girvan Academy, from 10am till 12 noon and again from 1pm till 3pm.

The taster sessions will be zumba, dance, gymnastics, Maui Thai, handball, bike track and the climbing wall and will be delivered by qualified and skilled instructors and the team games such as hockey, basketball, softball, athletics and volleyball will be run by Girvan Academy’s Senior Sports Leaders.

A completed consent form will have to be returned before any child or young person under the age of 16 will be allowed to participate in any of the sports activities. All local primary school pupils within the age range will be issued with flyers and consent forms via their school and these will also be distributed to pupils of Girvan Academy. If you know a young person who would like to attend and who doesn’t have a form, extra copies can be collected from Z1 Youth Bar prior to the event or filled in by a parent/guardian on the day. A registration table will be open at 9.30am and 12.30pm on all days.

The programme is being funded by South Ayrshire Council’s ‘Financial Support for Voluntary Organisations’ and ASDA Girvan.
