This coming week there are a couple of real treats for classical music fans in south Ayrshire.

On Friday, March 31 the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Sir James MacMillan CBE, plays An Ayrshire Suite by John Maxwell Geddes, Finzi’s lovely Clarinet Concerto with soloist Annelien Van Wauwe, and Beethoven’s Second Symphony. The orchestra is widely regarded as one of Europe’s leading orchestras and regularly broadcasts on BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Television.

The concert takes place at Ayr Town Hall, starting at 7.30pm, tickets available at the door, Circle: adults £24; Stalls: adults £20, students £5, school pupils £3.

On Monday, April 3 Calum Robertson, deputy organist at Old St Paul’s Episcopal Church, Edinburgh, plays the pipe organ in St Columba Parish Church, Midton Road, Ayr, at 12 noon, admission £3, as part of a series of 35 lunchtime concerts arranged from April to November.
