Hearing Aid Service

SISG (Ayrshire Hearing Support) Charity have recently

launched a monthly drop in service for older people

who use hearing aids within BRICC in Ballantrae

on the third Monday of every month from 1pm-2pm.

The charity’s trained volunteer will clean the mould, change the tubing and issue batteries to NHS hearing aid users. The charity already has 12 drop in centres throughout Ayrshire in addition to many other services.

Indoor Bowling

Ballantrae’s indoor bowlers competed for the Colmonell Cup this week. Winners were G Parker and A Hurst. Runners Up were D Murray and R Doak.


Whist Drive

Colmonell graceful years club held a whist drive on Friday 22 November in the Community Centre. Six tables and one person played. Winners: Ladies: 1st. Irene McCrae. 2nd Evonne Hurcomb. 3rd Cathie Gordon. Con Betty Robertson. Highest 1/2 time: Irene Goldie. Gents: 1st Grace Dunlop. 2nd Ann Robertson. 3rd Margaret Robertson. Con Freda Hirst. Highest 1/2 time Douglas McCrae. Person sitting the longest at one table Betty McCulloch. Many thanks to all who brought raffle prizes and helped to make the whist a very good success for the clubs Christmas party.


Coffee Morning

Fisherton Primary School is having a Christmas coffee morning at Kennedy Hall from 10am-12 noon on Saturday 7 December. All welcome.


Beetle Drive

Girvan Bowling Club is having a beetle drive on Tuesday 10 December at 7.30pm. All welcome with an entry fee of £1.

Christmas Fair

A Christmas fair is to be held at the Catholic Hall in Girvan on Sunday 8 December from 12 noon to 2pm in aid of Sacred Heart church funds.

Community Garden

Girvan Community Garden will be taking up residence in their pop up charity shop from Wednesday 4 Dec to Saturday 7 Dec. We will have some great items on sale to help us fundraise ranging from plants and handmade cards to golf balls and some vintage finds. Come in and support us, you never know what treasures we might have for you. We will also be open on the evening of the Street Party on Friday (6th). Church fayre

Girvan South Parish Church is holding its annual Christmas Fayre this Saturday 7th December from 10 am to 12 noon. Come along and enjoy our usual delicious home baking and lovely coffee. Santa will be along to see the children from 10.30 am to 11.30 am. We will also have our usual selection of seasonal stalls with decorations, toys, gifts, books and home baking.

Light to remember

Marie Curie Cancer Care Light to Remember service is on December 11th at 3pm in Girvan Community Hospital.

There will be a service with Girvan Primary School, Sacred Heart School & Girvan Musical Society singing with Marie Mortimer playing the Piano.

Afterwards there are mince pies and coffee.

There are tags in the hospital for people to dedicate a message to loved ones which they can put on the Christmas tree.

Street party

The Carrick Gazette office will be open to everyone as usual at the street party in Girvan on December 6. Please come along and enjoy a mulled wine with the staff.


SWRI Report

Nancy Thom, President welcomed members to the November meeting.

The meeting commenced with the rural song accompanied by Helen Dorn.

Nancy announced that Mrs Betty McFadzean is celebrating her 80th birthday and presented her with a Rural scarf and bag. Betty joined Craigie WRI as a young girl of 16 years, when she married and moved to Kirkoswald she joined that WRI and became a very active member for many years until due to the fall in membership Kirkoswald WRI had to close. She then joined Kirkmichael WRI and has been a keen member here for the last few years.

A very successful Whist Drive as held in October and we raised £650.

Nancy then introduced Lewis Currie from VASA (Voluntary Action South Ayrshire) who gave us a very interesting talk on the work this organisation does, after answering many questions Lewis very kindly judged the competitions for the evening.

Our November meeting was open to visiting rurals from the surrounding area to which there was a good response.

President Moira Yuille welcomed members and visitors . She then introduced the entertainment for the evening, Music Box, a very talented trio. They soon had feet tapping, hands clapping and the audience joining in the singing. Some enthusiastic members joined in the Slosh. This was a very entertaining evening enjoyed by members and visitors.

A vote of thanks was given by treasurer, Barbara Campbell. There followed an enjoyable supper provided by members. Competition winners were: Tablet : 1 D.Coleman 2 Margaret Morgan 3 Isabel Wilson Wrapped Parcel: 1 Anne Heriot 2 Jane Pitt 3 Edna Gardner

Raffles were then drawn before a vote thanks on behalf of the visiting rurals was given by Jessie Brown from Ballantrae.

President closed the meeting and announced that tickets for our January meeting are now on sale at £2 for non members. The entertainment for that evening will be a Scots Night with Ayrshire and District Young Farmers.
