Cats’ Corner

THE new year has started with a large list of cats needing rehomed so South Ayrshire Cats Protection are seeking homes for two adorable gentlemen.

Pilchard is 11-years-old and a friendly gentle soul. Photos don’t show how shiny and soft his black coat really is! Pilchard has scarring on his eye from a historic injury but he is 100 per cent healthy and looking forward to starting a new life with a new family. He gets on well with other cats, and older children but he’s not sure about dogs. Boaby is younger at eight-years-old and despite the stress of his owner passing away, he is such an affectionate giant! He is just one big black and white cuddle and is adoring any attention coming his way. He has been used to living with other cats, and a small dog, although it would be nice for him to have a home where he is the main focus. He has not lived with children, and has been an indoor cat so has to work that bit harder for his new year weight loss resolution! As always our cats are neutered and vaccinated, treated for worms/fleas, with an adoption fee applicable to help the charity cover these costs.

We also have available, seven semi-feral young cats who would make great mouser teams in a rural location. They have all been neutered so no need to worry about rehoming two or three and ending up with a colony! They will tolerate humans as providers of food to supplement the mice-diet but they have no desire to be stroked or petted. They have been in care for several months now and really need to get out into the open air where they belong, advice and support regarding this type of cat will be available from the branch as an on-going project, as and when required.

We call on all cat owners to start the year ensuring their pets are neutered. It’s a simple and quick operation with many health benefits, and we can provide assistance with the cost of this (owners will pay approximately £20 depending on vet). Please help us ensure supply does not exceed demand, which resulted in some horrific acts involving kittens reaching the media last year. Contact the branch on 08453 714216 for more info.

Finally, a big thank you to all our supporters over the previous year, without the Ayrshire community we wouldn’t be able to help as many cats as we do and keep the local cat populations under control. Here’s to a successful 2012!
