With Britain’s Got Talent finished for another year, ITV has to decide what it is going to fill the gap left by its absence in the Saturday night schedules.
This week it has decided to screen two programmes which are basically a collection of clips of old TV programmes.
The second programme is at 9pm and is another look at the mistakes that are made in the preparation of programmes. Hosted by Griff Rhys Jones it is another edition of It’ll Be All Right on the Night. Before it at 8pm, it will be - You Saw Them Here First.
We often wonder what the first programme that the stars we see on television today first appeared on. This programme will answer that question.
As before there will be various celebrities featured in clips from their earliest TV appearances. This edition will include - Daniel Craig, Idris Elba, Sheridan Smith, Nigella Lawson, Paul Hollywood; Sue Perkin, Fiona Bruce, Robert Peston, Stephen Fry, Bradley Walsh, Keeley Hawkes and Paloma Faith.
Invited to discuss their televisual history include Neil Dudgeon, Meg Johnson and Judy Parfitt. I personally will be particularly interested to see what clips they choose from Judy’s career, as the first time I remember watching her was in the Black Echo episode of Adam Adamant Lives! way back in 1967.
Since then she has appeared in dozens of television shows including The Charmings, The Jewel in the Crown, The Avengers and Call The Midwife.
I wonder if in some twenty years – if this programme is still going – there might be some performers for whom Britain’s Got Talent has become their earliest TV appearance.
