Like Girvan Rotary, The Inner Wheel Club of Girvan welcomed Andy Martin, Community Manager of Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) to be our guest speaker recently.
From one plane in 1945 there are now more than 140 light aircraft providing transport for worldwide charities giving humanitarian aid to people in areas otherwise too remote or inaccessible.
Whether it is in war torn or famine regions - or in times of disaster, the transport of food, medical supplies, vaccines, equipment and technical assistance are invaluable. They transform the lives of the people in the present and give them hope for the future.
After his enlightening talk he was presented with a cheque for £200 which was raised at our International Evening.
Another charity to benefit from the club’s fundraising is Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS). It provides hospice care for babies, children and young people and also practical and moral support for their families. As well as Rachel House, Kinross and Robin House, Loch Lomond there is a service called “CHAS at Home”.
It currently helps many families in Ayrshire as well as other parts of Scotland. The focus is in providing good memories, not sad, and the families benefitting have had nothing but praise for CHAS.
Anyone can be referred for respite care or help in the home. The support given is free so donations from events like our annual lunch all go to help.
This year it is on Saturday 28th October, 12 to 2pm in the South Parish Church Hall, Girvan. Cost £5. There will be a variety of soups, speciality bread and delicious desserts followed by tea, coffee and biscuits. We look forward to welcoming you as we did in previous years.
