Barr Village’s new-look Gala Day has been voted a big success by the large number of villagers and visitors alike who attended it on Saturday.
The weather stayed dry and the new and colourful arrangement of stalls and attractions did a lively trade throughout the afternoon.
The traditional morning race up Auchensoul Fell marked the beginning of an action and fun-packed day which was formally opened by Gala Queen, Eleanor Gunson and the Maid of Honour, Savannah Harvey after the parade had ‘Samba-ed its way round the streets led by the local primary’s Samba percussion band.
Merchandising stalls had been relocated behind the village hall and a play and activities area took over the putting green where adults and children also showed a great deal on interest in watching a demonstrating of a horse being shod. There was a burger stall for the hungry and the traditional tea room was also open for the day.
Other attractions in an action packed day included archery, pony rides, a duck race down the river and a pet show before the day ended with live music and a hog roast in the Kings Arms pub.
