This year’s Thomas Duncan Memorial lecture is set to take place in Girvan’s McKechnie Institute on Thursday 22 October.
The talk this year will be given by Ken Paterson with attendees asked to arrive from 7pm onwards for a 7.30pm.
Guest speaker Ken is a retired hospital consultant physician whilst he was also honorary professor at Glasgow University’s medical school.
To tie in with the McKechnie Institute’s current exhibition on Carrick’s great war stories, Ken will speak about the work done by distinguished Glasgow surgeon Sir William MacEwen, who within eleven months helped create the Princess Louise Scottish hospital for Limbless Sailors and soldiers returning from World War 1 at Erskine.
Now known famously as the Erskine Hospital, without William it might never have been established. The meeting will be the first of the season for the history society.
