The Rotary Club of Girvan met on Tuesday, August 12 at the Royal Hotel and heard an interesting account of combat stress.
The speaker was Alan Middleton who works in a theraputic gardening service based at Auchincruive at the Erskin facility in Renfrew.
He said that the common symptoms are anxiety, depression and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
A spokesperson for the club said: “I have heard many descriptions of PTSD in my life and career and never heard a better description of what life is like for a sufferer.
“It was an outstanding account, and it was clear how helpful their garden projects would be to someone with the illness.
“I listened with especial interest to their approach to new arrivals to their project because we at Ayr Action for Mental Health have been considering the very same matters. We can clearly learn from them.”
