The X Factor hits final showdown

This Sunday at eight o’clock on ITV will see the final two hours of this year’s X Factor Competition. Who out of Andrea, Fleur and Ben will be declared the winner?

Over on BBC1 there will be the announcement of another winner and that is who is going to follow Andy Murray as this year’s Sports Personality of the Year?

The origin of this programme started way back in 1954 when Paul Fox the editor of Sportsview, decided to make an award to the person the public decided had achieved the most in sport that year.

The following year the programme became Sports Review of the Year and remained with that title until 1999, when the programme was rename BBC

Sports Personality of the Year. Over the years there have been various presenters and various new awards added.

This year, in addition to the Sports Personality of the Year Award, there are also awards for Team of the Year; Coach of the Year; Young Sports Personality of the Year; Overseas Sports Personality; Unsung Hero; and the Helen Rollason Award for inspirational achievement in the face of adversity.

Throughout the programme there will be clips featuring a wide range of sports and their most successful participants.

No doubt this year’s World Cup, Winter Olympics, Ryder Cup and Commonwealth Games will feature prominently.

This year the programme will be coming from Glasgow and will be hosted by Gabby Logan, Clare Balding and Gary Lineker.

Viewers will get an opportunity to vote either online or by telephone. It will be interesting to see which of the two ‘competitions’ proves more popular in the ratings.
