Aeronautical society

This month’s talk entitled “Evolution in Aerodynamic Design” is by Behrooz Barzegar.

The last 30 years have witnessed the growth of the Aerodynamics capability starting from the “fit for purpose” tools used for the development of J31/J41 to incredibly sophisticated range of tools in Airbus. As Airbus Head of Flight Physics Capability, Behrooz became aware of 250+ aerodynamics tools per site that he needed to rationalise.

Also, he experienced the capabilities of DLR and ONERA and the sad drift of the UK research from the radar screen. Aerodynamics capability has grown substantially over the past 17 years since the A380 and the range of its application has spread considerably. In this lecture, Behrooz hopes to capture some of the key capabilities developed, the range of applications in Airbus and look to the future direction of this capability which is at the very core of the design of any aerospace vehicle.

Visitors and Guests are welcome, and an opportunity to meet over tea or coffee will be available in the Aviator Suite (situated on the upper floor of the terminal building) during the evening. The lecture will begin at 7:30 p.m. Entry is free to students in full time education; otherwise there is an entry fee of £3 for visitors. The airport parking fee for visitors is £2.50, payable at the Information Desk.
