On Monday night at half past seven instead of its usual programming ITV will be screening this year’s Royal Variety Show over two and three quarter hours.
With the recent revival of Sunday Night at the Palladium I did hope that there would be more of a variety of different kinds of acts performing this year. While there are a couple of speciality acts, the main emphasis seems to be on music and comedy. However there is a variety of different kinds of music on offer ranging from current pop music through to opera. Superstars Dame Shirley Bassey and Bette Midler will be two of the main stars participating in the show this year.
Other musicians will include – Alfie Boe, Demi Lovato, Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding, Simply Red, and McBusted. Former stars of the X Factor and now world renowned supergroup, One Direction, will be on stage as will Collabro – the singing group who were this year’s winners of Simon Cowell’s other hit TV show - Britain’s Got Talent. In keeping with one of the elements of the revived Palladium show, there will be an appearance from the cast of a well-known musical – this time it will be Miss Saigon. A highlight this year will be from the show Inala – which is a very special mixture of song, classical ballet, contemporary dance and music.
When it comes to comedy, Jack Whitehall, Russell Kane, Trevor Noah and Sarah Millican will be making the audience laugh. Stephen Mulhern, the first host of the new Palladium series, will also be included and hopefully this time he will be allowed to put his magical skills to good use.
The host for the evening will be highly successful comedian Michael McIntyre – who was once a judge on Britain’s Got Talent.
