During the course of its long televisual life Coronation Street has seen many actors and actresses becoming involved in its various storylines.
Some of these actors have only appeared for a few episodes. Others have managed to become long running characters. However not too many of them have stayed for over forty years to end up becoming Corrie legends.
Sadly one of these iconic characters will never appear again on the cobbles in new episodes as she sadly passed away on January 19.
Anne Kirkbride’s work was celebrated in the moving tribute that her television husband Bill Roache paid to her at the National Television Awards a week past Sunday. In November 2012 ITV screened a special tribute to Anne Kirkbride’s forty years on the Street and this programme will be screened again on Tuesday at 7.30pm.
In this programme Anne talks about where it all began for her when she worked as a theatre stage manager in Oldham.
The documentary also looks at some of the key stories that Deidre has been involved with over the years including her relationship with Mike Baldwin which almost ended her marriage to Ken and the time when she was falsely imprisoned for fraud as a result of her relationship with Jon Lindsay.
This lead to a campaign to ‘Free the Weatherfield One.’ There will be contributions from some of the cast members who worked with Anne over the years including Bill Roache, Johnny Briggs, Chris Gascoyne and Michelle Keegans.
The programme will also have Anne talking about her private life including finding love on Coronation Street and her battle with ill health. Anne’s contribution over the years has been huge and she will be very much missed by the show’s many fans.
