When you hear that there is going to be a programme set in Edinburgh Castle at this time of the year, your first thought is that it is a screening of the latest Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
However the Live at Edinburgh Castle programme this Saturday from half past eight on BBC 1, is something rather different.
It is a special concert featuring a variety of music (and some comedy) coming from one of Scotland’s most famous landmarks.
While some of the music might be familiar to some viewers – hopefully most people should also get the opportunity of hearing something new as well. While the acts taking part are still subject to change, at the moment it is hoped that the following wellknown names in the world of music will be there – Smokey Robinson, Kaiser Chiefs, Paloma Faith, Rizzle Kicks, Jessie J, Katherine Jenkins, Il Divo, One Republic, Alfie Boe, and Ella Henderson.
Culture Club – who have recently reformed - will also be taking part in their first show together in some fifteen years.
The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and a house band led by Mike Stevens will also be in attendance, supporting some of the acts.
There will also be comedy courtesy of Bill Bailey and Fred MacAulay. The event will be presented by Alex Jones from the popular TV series The One Show. With such a wide variety of different kinds of music being covered by the concert, it is hoped that during the course of its two hours there will definitely be something for everyone.
This is very much ‘event television’ and makes a very pleasant change from recent Saturday night programming which if you were not a sports fan has been ( to me at least) rather disappointing.
