NEARLY 40 drivers were caught for various driving offences in the Carrick area since early December.
The figure does not include drivers issued penalties by traffic department officers who have visited the area on several occasions over the past few weeks.
The offences ranged from drink-driving, speeding, people not wearing seat belts and use of mobile phones.
Local police have used the speed gun on several occasions in Girvan, particularly at Louisa Drive, Henrietta Street, Viccarton Street, The Avenue and Coalpotts Road.
However, thefts of diesel and fuel oil from isolated properties is on the increase.
