THE People of South Ayrshire turned out in force in Ayr to celebrate Armed Forces Day and show their support for personnel past and present.
Ayr’s celebrations started with a special flag raising ceremony, overseen by Provost Winifred Sloan, the area’s Veterans Champion.
This was followed by a fantastic Big Day at the Beach extravaganza on Low Green, which included atractions like an assault course, military displays, pipe bands and the “Xtra Tall Streetwalkers”.
Provost Sloan said: “Armed Forces Day is a chance for people to come together to show their support for the Armed Forces and this year they could have fun while doing it. It is an annual opportunity for the nation to show their support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community.
“Big Day at the Beach was a real community event and I would like to thank everyone who supported it. It was great to see so many families out enjoying themselves while helping raise funds for some very worthy forces charities.”
The Tug of War challenge was won by a team from the RAF and staff at the Savoy Park Hotel held a ‘Black Tie Night’ with all proceeds being donated to the Army Benevolent Fund and SSAFA Forces Help Ayrshire.
