Writer, broadcaster and Celebrity MasterChef finalist, Kirsty Wark, will be demonstrating her cooking skills at Ballantrae’s first ever Festival of Food & Drink.

The Newsnight presenter will also be talking about her bestselling debut novel, The Legacy of Elizabeth Pringle.

The Ayrshire village is celebrating the 2015 Year of Food and Drink in spectacular fashion on Sunday 10th May from noon until 6pm. Inspired by Ballantrae’s exceptional lamb, beef and seafood produce, the Festival has attracted a wide range of food producers from across South West Scotland. Pop-up restaurants, food and drink tastings, foraging demonstrations - there’s something for all food lovers.

Ayrshire raised Kirsty said: “In this glorious part of the country you will find some of the best produce in the whole of Britain, and I am delighted to be part of Ballantrae’s first Festival of Food & Drink. I hope food lovers will come from far and wide because if they do, they won’t be disappointed. I am coming with a big empty basket and I’m going to fill it with high quality local ingredients!”

The event builds on the village’s successful reputation for Farmers’ Markets, the Smugglers’ Festival, Ballantrae Gala and craft fairs. It has received funding from South Ayrshire Council and the Community Food Fund, and also has the support of the Galloway & Southern Ayrshire Biosphere.

The action will be centred in a large marquee at the harbour and at nearby Craigiemains Home and Garden Centre, the Kings Arms Hotel and Pebbles Spa and Bistro.

Anne McCulloch of Craigiemains Home and Garden Centre said: “We are looking forward to the first Ballantrae Food Festival and are confident that it will be a successful and enjoyable event”.

This view was echoed by Brian and Suzanne Stirling of the Kings Arms Hotel in Ballantrae who added: “We’ll be serving some of the best of local produce for visitors to the Kings Arms. The Festival is a great opportunity to show just what Ballantrae has to offer.”

Sandra Brown of Pebbles Spa and Leisure, Lendalfoot is also supporting the Festival. “Pebbles Bistro is delighted to be part of the Ballantrae Festival of Food and Drink. With such an abundance of locally grown produce it is an ideal showcase of what Ayrshire offers. So be sure to come along and taste some of Ayrshire’s best. Pebbles Bistro will have a festival menu running in the week up to the festival.”
