Last week’s issue of the Gazette featured Girvan Scouts activities during National Scout Community Week.

Ballantrae Scouts also took part in this national initiative supported by B&Q in Ayr. Andy McAlpine, Group Chairman of the Ballantrae Scout Group explained: “There was a national tie-up between B&Q and Scout Groups across the country.

“We approached B&Q in Ayr to tell them about our projects during Scout Week - a Car Wash and Car Boot Sale, planting up the planters in front of the Community Hall, and helping with the Village Clean-up organised by Ballantrae Primary School. B&Q very generously provided buckets and sponges, some bedding plants, and protective gloves to assist with the work we planned to carry out. The relationship proved so successful that next year, we agreed to build on the solid foundations established this year.”

“We held our Group AGM on the Tuesday of Scout and Community Week during which we were able to show parents and supporters a DVD of the sort of activities the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts had been involved in during the previous year.

“The Car Boot Sale and Car Wash on the Saturday raised a total of £285 for the Group Funds”.

The Beavers, Cubs and Scouts will be participating in the village clean-up being organised by the primary school during the coming week.

We are grateful to everyone who supported our efforts during Scout and Community Week.”
