A cat from Barr named Max may end up losing his leg after it was caught in a spring trap which the SPCA believe may have been set illegally.
The SPCA were alerted on February 11 when Max returned home to his owners in the village.
He is currently undergoing treatment but may lose his leg.
Chief Superintendent Mike Flynn said, “Max’s leg was caught in a spring trap.
“These traps can be used lawfully but are quite rare and have to be secured and used under a cover.
“The fact Max was caught by the leg strongly suggests this trap was seteither illegally or extremely poorly.
“Max would have been in a great deal of pain and distress.
“It is very lucky he managed to make it home to his owners so they could get him the vet treatment he urgently needed.
“This was a horrific incident and Max’s owners are understandably distraught.
“We would appeal to anyone with information about who may have set the trap to contact us in confidence.”
Anyone with information should call the Scottish SPCA animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
