Barr head teacher retires

THE curtain-calls at Barr Primary’s annual school panto, Cinderella, were interrupted with the arrival of no fewer than four more Ugly Sisters with an impromptu song about headteacher Nancy Doyle, who is retiring from the school she has taught at for 33 years.

Members of the school’s staff were paying a rousing tribute to Mrs Doyle, who began her teaching career at Ballantrae and spent some time at Assel Primary before moving to Barr, where she served as head for 26 years. Mrs Doyle received many gifts from everyone associated with the school and the wider village community, all of whom paid tribute to her years of service.

Afterwards, she said she had very much enjoyed her time in Barr, which she described as her “second home” and thanked all of the staff with whom she had worked over the years. Former pupils of the school, together with members of staff and a packed house of parents and other members of the village community, turned out to pay tribute to her as she took her own personal curtain call.
