Biomass move for Ranch Holiday Park

The Ranch Holiday Park in Maybole has recently installed a state of the art biomass boiler with help from RBS and Lombard.

The holiday park had been using 10 individual boilers around the park before this investment but now will only need to use one biomass boiler.

The biomass boiler will improve the health and safety of the holiday park and through the government’s Renewable Heat Energy Initiative, the company is now guaranteed long term incentives based on fixed tariff rates per kilowatt.

Director and owner of the park Thomas McAuley purchased the site 10 years ago and now runs it with his son Mark and family.

Thomas and Mark realised there was an opportunity with the government’s Renewable Energy Incentives so set up a meeting with RBS relationship manager Charlie Morton to find out their options.

In turn, Charlie worked with Lombard’s Relationship Manager, David Kinnear, to devise a funding solution that would enable Thomas to purchase and install a 200kW biomass boiler with initial funding from RBS while spreading the cost with a hire purchase from Lombard.

Thomas said: “Before, we were using 10 individual boilers around the park now we just have the one biomass boiler doing the entire job. The biomass boiler is easier to manage and improves our health and safety as the risk of gas poisoning is dramatically reduced. Through the government’s Renewable Energy Heat Incentive we are now guaranteed long term incentives based on our fixed tariff rates per kW.

“RBS helped me purchase the business in the very beginning and I’ve found my Relationship Managers to be astoundingly good over the years. I feel that they have always looked at the bigger picture and recognise that I work hard and understand my business. Charlie has been incredibly hands on and definitely knows what he’s talking about.”

The Ranch Caravan Park now has nearly 100 static holiday homes and 75 touring pitches for visiting caravans and has won numerous Practical Caravan Awards.
